What is “Legacy”?

In the days of yore, legacy meant ancestral trade being passed down from parent to child. This practice continued for centuries till a time came when children chose their trade and moved out of their comfort zones to become who and what they wanted to. The legacy that was left behind was that of ancestral knowledge of that trade and any wealth from it.

Today’s generation has moved on to learn the trade of their choice and become successful in the chosen field. We cannot force our kids to follow our footsteps and become what we choose for them. The only legacy that one can leave behind is to ensure that the earned wealth stays within the family and available for the children when the need arises. With the increase in the standard of living today, ensuring the safety of your earnings and leaving behind a legacy is paramount. In my childhood having a single TV in the home was a luxury. Today, every room has one and it is demanded in the name of privacy. We are spoilt (or spoiling our children) for choices in every aspect of life. With all the stress and strain of ensuring we have enough left behind for our family, we end up working harder. The thought of every parent today is to ensure that our children lead a better life than ours. Leaving a legacy (financial, legal etc) behind that is planned in a very organized manner is the least one can do.

To summarize, Legacy is what we leave behind for our family so that they can seamlessly continue life, when you are gone! We owe this to ourselves and the family!
